Let’s be honest. We all have had that day (or even week) where the papers, tests, and assigned reading are just too much to deal with. So why not take a 2-hour break and watch the latest Breaking Bad season? We all do it and sometimes watching Netflix is a necessity. And with the upcoming semester only weeks away, it’s time to scout out the best “break” shows to distract us from the painful workload ahead. So just in case you finished binge-watching your favorite show this summer or only a few weeks into the first semester, here are the top 5 shows you can’t miss.

  1. House of Cards (US Version)

Kevin Spacey House of CardsThis show is for all of you political gurus out there. With only 4 seasons each episode is intense. House Majority Whip Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) is power hungry Democrat who will stop at nothing to reach the top of the political pyramid. He and his wife Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) are the focus of the series but they continually push and pull other members of congress as they seek power. Each episode is a little less than an hour long so it’s perfect for a much needed distraction.

  1. Mad Men

Mad Men Take a journey back to the 1960s in this drama series as women’s rights, drinking, style and business as usual are heavy subjects. Set in NYC, Don Draper (Jon Hamm) wants to be successful in Manhattan for an Advertising business while also being the family man he is expected to be. The series follows the personal and business life of Don and the businessmen and women he works with. With 7 seasons and more that 15 Emmy nominations this Netflix original is a popular college student choice.

  1. Breaking Bad

Breaking-Bad.jpg This series is definitely a MUST see. Netflix has the complete series and you will not want to miss the exciting twists and turns of every episode. Walter White (Bryan Cranston) needs to make ends meet when he is diagnosed with cancer and he desperately needs to support his family. By using an old RV and a Meth lab, this former chemistry teacher makes some extra cash and after a few episodes, has the audience hooked. So make sure to break out those month free Netflix trials for this gripping show.

  1. The Office (US Version)

The Office Confession. This is my go to show anytime I need a little humor added to my life. The Office has 9 seasons and plenty of characters to connect with. Regional Manger Michael Scott (Steve Carrell) runs the Scranton branch of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company and every day is a toss up. Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) and Pam Beesly (Jenna Fisher) all put up with Michael’s crazy management style but play pranks and sell paper all in a hilarious way. Each episode is only 20 min long so it’s perfect for a time in between classes. And with 201 episodes you won’t get bored this semester.

  1. Lost

Lost-season1This TV series, despite its age, is the perfect college student binge-watching show. Each episode literally has a cliffhanger, which fits great into any schedule if you have 40 minutes to kill. With the added drama and suspense it doesn’t take long to feel a part of the story and totally forget how much time you have spent watching the show. The plot follows the survivors of a commercial airplane crash that land on a mysterious island. Frequent flashbacks and flash-forwards reveal the deepest secrets of the island and its survivors. 121 episodes and over 60 hours of nail biting suspense put Lost as the number one college student choice for Netflix shows.
