1. IT IS WAY BETTER THAN BEING A CAMPER
You don’t have to follow all the rules. You have better housing. You don’t have to go to bed when the campers do. ALL OF THE FREEDOM.
2. Sneaking out after campers are asleep
After a long hard day dealing with campers and eating that oh so delicious food that will leave you in the bathroom for hours, you get a little hungry. Although it may cost you to gain a few 10 or 20 pounds, half priced shakes from sonic are so worth it. These late night trips will leave you with more memories than you could ever imagine, and these hold some of my favorites.
3. Getting to leave camp during break
Having the ability to leave to get a Large Raspberry Sweet Tea during my break is a gift from the great Lord above. Thank you Jesus for allowing Sonic to be the only food place within 20 miles of camp. ❤
4. Campers ask so many questions
“What time is lunch?” “What time is dinner?” “Where’s the bathroom?” “Can I go get a water bottle?” “Is it lunch time yet?” “When does the Riffle Range open?” “When does the pool open?” “What’s for dinner?”
HONEY YOU WERE GIVEN A DANG SCHEDULE FOR A REASON. LOOK AT IT.
5. Match Making
Camp crushes are so cute, and sense summer camp has a strict NO PURPLE (boys are blue, girls are pink, blue + pink = purple) policy, it’s so fun to try to pair up the cute crushes and make them suffer. If you have to deal with hormonal teenagers all summer, why not put them together and let the sexual tension burn. (insert smiling devil emoji)
6. THE FOOD
Camp food, is truly one of a kind. Ya see, its better than school cafeteria food, but it is no where near leaving the cafeteria food category, EXCEPT for breakfast and the famous chocolate gravy that I hope you are blessed with at your camp, now that stuff is a taste of heaven. Even though the breakfast is fire, after week 3, you would rather eat dirt than continue to eat the same food for 6 more weeks.
7. WHY MUST I GET UP EARLIER THAN CAMPERS
Now wake up calls where you get to blast annoying music into the cabins at 6:30AM is a kind of joy that only a counselor can know. The torture you get to put sleeping teenagers through is almost enough motivation to get up at 5:30AM to prepare for the hot and long day.
8. THE TALENT SHOW
LOL, do I even need to continue…
9. Yo bed
Say bye to those extra small, creaky twin beds that you’ve been sleeping on for the past 7 years and hello to your new full size bed ❤ Although this new bed is still not like your one at home, its way more comfortable than a bed that creaks every time you breathe. Dare I mention the fact you now get your own bathroom, PRAISE GOD.
10. THE CHILLENS
Although you may have gone through hell and back throughout the weeks, you truly love your job as a counselor. The relationships you make throughout the summer will last a lifetime and the impact you make in the campers lives will leave a forever mark on their hearts. Through all the pain, blood, sweat and tears, being a camp counselor was by far the best summer of your life. Much love ❤
